SECONDARY: 1-3

Alignment with Curriculum for Excellence

Eolas provides high school students with well-planned classes to explore wide varieties of Mathematical concepts. While students are given in- depth teaching and clear guidance, the tutor also challenges students to develop their own thinking and problem solving skills.

Makes Sure No One is Left Behind

Eolas makes sure that all students are equipped with the Maths skills necessary for their stage. Many of the secondary topics are interconnected which means if a student struggle with one topic, it will adversely impact their ability to understand and progress to the next topic.

Lesson Structure

With a well-structured teaching schedule, students in a group will focus on one particular mathematical concept at a time (the Asian Maths teaching technique). Each concept taught is interlinked with the next. This approach allows students to apply previous knowledge in learning new topics.

Students in a small group will explore different mathematical concepts through interactive lessons. Each lesson include: teaching, exploring and practicing.

Teaching

The tutor will normally spend 2 to 3 weeks on each topic. At the beginning of

each class tutors will introduce new mathematical concept using examples. The tutor will provide clear guidance and explain each mathematical concept in depth, using simple and precise mathematics language. Once students have basic understandings,

the tutor will gradually increase the difficulties.

Practicing

We expect 100% effort from our students while providing a supporting and motivating learning environment. Classwork and homework are provided each lesson. Students are given time to practice the new topic in class. This ensures students can apply what they learnt. Very often students are encouraged to demonstrate and explain answers in class – this further reinforces concepts and boost confidence.

Tutor goes through students’ homework each week to identify weakness and provide customised additional support.

Exploring

Lessons are conducted in an interactive format and tutor will emphasise on logical reasoning, continuously asking students ‘why’ and ‘what if’.
Tutor will explore various questions types to stimulate thinking. Questions of various difficulties will also be explored to develop students’ cognitive skills – applying concepts/ knowledge in unscripted situations.

Additional Support

To make sure each student fully understands the mathematical concepts necessary for their stage, tutors are happy to answer any questions students might encounter after their weekly lesson.

Occasionally tutors will provide free additional lessons to students who have questions regarding school works or have tests coming up.

We aim to offer as much support as possible to students who are willing to learn and thrive!
